Highlights from the European Aspirin Symposium
Patrono.jpg It is amazing to think that we are approaching the 110th anniversary of the discovery of aspirin, and yet this wonder drug still continues to astonish healthcare professionals worldwide. When such an inexpensive drug can continue to find new avenues in all fields of medicine, and the mechanism of action is still unfolding – it is not surprising that experts will continue to meet to digest the newest findings.

This year’s European Aspirin Symposium (EAS), which was held mid October in Berlin, Germany, provided such an opportunity for physicians from across Europe to consider the latest aspirin news. Some key highlights from the EAS are presented here.

From Secondary to Primary Prevention - Aspirin Cardio at the ESC Congress in Munich
ESC2008_as_3525.jpg More than 30,000 visitors from all parts of the globe gathered in Munich for this year’s ESC (European Society of Cardiology) Congress in Munich (Aug. 30 – Sept. 3), one of the most important cardiology Congress in the world. And of course, Bayer Schering Pharma (BSP) - a founding father of the conference and major sponsor - was more than represented. With a total of six satellite symposia, plus many other activities, as well, BSP General Medicine was able to spread the word regarding its longstanding experience and competence in Cardiovascular Risk Management (CVRM) and the effectiveness of both its new and mature products.

ARRIVE makes an impact at ESC
home_teaser_arrive.jpg Aspirin Cardio made a major impact at this year’s European Society of Cardiology Congress (ESC) in Vienna with the announcement of the start of ARRIVE, one of the largest clinical studies ever conducted to assess the benefits of Aspirin in reducing heart attacks and strokes in people who have not experienced such an event before, but are considered to be moderately at risk of doing so.

Aspirin at the Royal Society of Medicine London: Recognition of Excellence
home_teaser_ief.gif The 5th annual Bayer HealthCare-sponsored International Experts Forum (IEF) was immensely successful, attracting nearly 200 delegates from almost 30 countries. The scientific programme was endorsed by both the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) and the World Heart Federation (WHF), and delegates were awarded five continuing professional development credits by the Royal College of Physicians.

Advancing the benefits of aspirin at the WCC 2006
home_wcc2006.jpg Aspirin Cardio was well represented in a successful satellite symposium on the opening day of the World Cardiology Congress (WCC) 2006 in Barcelona, Spain.


This congress was jointly organised by the European Society of Cardiology and the World Heart Federation (WHF) and was the largest event of the year in cardiovascular (CV) medicine. This year’s Bayer HealthCare Aspirin satellite symposium was entitled ‘Advancing cardiovascular risk reduction with aspirin’ and the panel of international experts and a strong scientific programme attracted over 400 delegates. Their Royal Highnesses the King and Queen of Spain Visited the CardioBus
home_con_carlos.jpg King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía visited the Bayer HealthCare Plant in La Felguera, Spain. They had the opportunity to inspect the CardioBus, a mobile laboratory for the assessment of cardiovascular risk factors. This laboratory has provided the basis for the CardioAlert Campaign in Spain, an initiative to create awareness amongst the population with regards to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Bayer HealthCare has been working on this project since 2004 with the support of the Spanish Ministry of Health and Consumption and the collaboration of prestigious medical companies. The Campaign, in which around 150 health professionals have taken part, has covered the whole of Spain, visiting 28 cities and dealing with over 13,000 people. Read more...
